Term 1 Complete and 76 Student Ticket Winners for Acts of Integrity
I hope this newsletter finds you doing well. Like the school year, life seems to go pretty fast. Hopefully, you were able to slow down a little this past week and take some time for yourself. Now we start gearing up for our 2nd term and before you know it we will be heading into Thanksgiving break and then Christmas break.
Term 2 starts Monday. It's important if you did not get a good grade from the 1st 9 weeks to start fresh, stay on top of work, and earn a high mark to get a passing grade from the semester. For those students who did well, continue working hard for the 2nd nine weeks. Grades from the 1st term will be available on October 23rd.
We had several things happen over the break regarding sports. Our girls XC team won sectional, which was the 2nd sectional won by a fall Cubs team. 3 girls were able to move on to semi-state from this past weekend's regional competition. Ava Spencer, Cadence Traylor, and Brett Cahall will be competing in the Brown County Semi-State this Saturday. The boy's XC team had 3 runners advance to regional. Trevor Hoffman, Noah Burhardt, and Logan Ferris all moved on. The boy's and girl's soccer teams ended their seasons in sectional play. The boy's tennis team will be competing this week in sectional. The volleyball team ended their season against Silver Creek in sectional play. The football team begins sectional play this Friday at home vs Mooresville.
The FFA competed Saturday in the STATE Soils competition. This is the first time in several years (maybe 10) that we have been able to compete. Students had less than 15 days to learn all new material about northern Soils but did very well. Last weekend our Dairy Foods team competed at the State level as well and did very well. Mrs. Briggs gave a nice shoutout to our newest faculty member in Ms. Shelby Ison. "I wanted to let you know that Shelby is doing a great job with the FFA kids."
Our culinary classes are in full swing. Happy Pumpkin Spice season! We celebrated with a throw-down between Mrs. Briggs' Food Science class and the two Culinary 2 Baking classes. Food Science used fresh pumpkins from the field. Culinary 2 used canned pumpkin, but added a cream cheese swirl and ground some of our own spices for the pumpkin spice blend. We used The Great Pumpkin theme from the classic Charlie Brown and Culinary 2 -- specifically Kelsey Craddock -- won the Great Pumpkin award and Food Science won the "I Got a Rock" award.
National Merit - Devin Zhang has been named a National Merit Semi-finalist, qualifying through his 2019 PSAT scores. He is one of 16,000 students nationally to receive the honor; semi-finalists represent less than 1 percent of the nation's graduating high school seniors. Zhang will learn in February if he will advance to Finalist status. (Semifinalists apply for Finalist status with an application that includes a school report, recommendation letter, SAT or ACT test scores, and an essay.)
Jordyn Bilz - Nominated by MCHS staff for the National Daughters of the American Revolution as our Good Citizen. She will compete with an essay on citizenship to become a scholarship winner.
Congratulations to Gracie True, Immi Mann, and Neel Mistry for receiving Academic All-State!
Take a look below at the 76 students who received a ticket and who entered them into our end of year celebration. They were nominated by various adults on campus. Students have multiple opportunities to be entered into the drawing. If you want to see who they are, who entered them, and why, click on this link:
